My family is so incredibly grateful for all that Friends of Kids with Cancer does to bring normalcy to a time in our lives that requires so much flexibility for the unknown. Friends acknowledges that the child with cancer needs to be able to feel normal and seen, and it is so nice to know that when we are in clinic for treatment that , the toy closet is stocked with a variety of toys and activities to be able to make long hospital days/stays easier.
But Friends also recognizes that a childhood cancer diagnosis affects the entire family, not just the child with cancer. And thanks to all the generous support of donors, all my children are able to feel seen and supported.
Our family is able to participate in events as an entire group, like the back-to-school event and the Fall Festival, and make wonderful memories together. The ability to be able to go to special events that Friends puts on is something that my entire family values, as there was a Christmas and New Year's that we had spent apart because Claire was in the hospital.
We have also been fortunate to be able to participate in the therapy programs that Friends supports, which have allowed my kids to work through their big feelings with another supportive adult who wants to see them succeed.
This has been a journey that I wish no one had to endure, but I am so grateful for all the support that we have received so that we can focus on Claire and helping her heal.
Everyone always acknowledges the doctors and nurses and hospital staff, and they are all amazing during this journey. But there is so much additional support from Friends of Kids with Cancer, and others like them, that make this cancer journey so much easier.
So thank you for all your support that allows Friends to support families like mine. You will never understand just how deep our gratitude is for all the wonderful memories we have been able to make thanks to what Friends does."
